Born in the Midlands, currently living and working in West Yorkshire. My initial Art Education was undertaken at Leicester Polytechnic, on an Arts Foundation Course from 1985 -85. I undertook an Undergraduate Degree in Sculpture at Bretton Hall College, 1988 -1991, and a Post Graduate Masters Course in Sculpture, at the University of Leeds, 1995-98.
I was elected a Member of the Royal Society of Sculptors in 2023.
I am a member of both the Yorkshire Sculpture Group and The Public Statues and Sculpture Association.
My work involves the construction of finely crafted elements, combined in organic systems that draw their theme from a variety of sources, but are predominately conceived through the exploration and interitation of landscape, and also suggest an association with tools and workshop environments. These predominantly abstract but simple looking sculptures, use a minimalist vocabulary of curved, rounded cylindrical, boxy and conical forms and are created and developed using accumulative and labour-intensive processes. Using industrial and preindustrial era crafts, such as wrapping, lamination and other joinery techniques traditionally associated with furniture making and boat building, ideas and making skill are combined to create a dialogue between traditional lineage's and modern art.
